Beat the weekend jam
The expressway is fast. The final 10 km into Mussoorie is not. On Friday evenings and long weekends, traffic backs up for kilometres before Kincraig. Leave Delhi by 6 am and you’ll reach Mussoorie before lunch; leave at noon and you may spend two hours on the last stretch alone.
Register before you drive up

Which route to Mussoorie should you choose?
Match the route to where you’re starting and who’s travelling with you:
- Delhi NCR with your own car: drive. Leave early and the expressway beats every other option.
- Delhi without a car: Vande Bharat or Shatabdi to Dehradun, then a taxi.
- Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Kolkata: fly to Jolly Grant and cab up.
- Students and solo backpackers: bus to Dehradun, then the Roadways bus to Mussoorie.
The most common mistake we see? Planning to reach Dehradun late in the evening and “just drive up.” Between July and September, landslides and fog make the hill road slow after dark. Arrive in Dehradun by 3 pm and the last leg stays easy.
